Apprenticeship in Ireland
Kamil is a fourth year apprentice in Ireland with Centum and has given us an insight to what its like.
1. Why did you want to become an Electrician?
I became an electrician because I like hands on work. There is a lot of opportunity becoming one such as working world-wide. There’s never ending working. Someone is always looking something done and you can be your own boss without much trouble. You just have to be good at what you do and get your name out there and gain exposure.
2. How did you go about getting the job/apprenticeship?
My first ever apprenticeship job I got by going on NICEIC website and using it to find local companies. As when I started, I didn’t drive. So, I had to get somewhere close to home
3. How are you finding it?
I am finding my apprenticeship challenging. Which is a good thing. Learning every day. You really must use your head to get anywhere with this trade. It’s definitely one of the hardest.
4. How do Centum support you?
Centum supports me great financially. Also, when I started there was some good employees tried to help me as much as they could when it came to setting up for working in the south. I really appreciated that.
5. What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?
If I was to give anyone advice. Is to be sure that the apprenticeship is right for you. There’s a lot of pros and cons when starting and you must be ready for that. But in the long game it’s going to be worth it!
